MDMA, one night and the weeks after

A few hours of warmth and closeness, paid for in heat, water, a tired heart and a low few days, and lately with pills that often hold two common doses in one. This atlas follows one night and the weeks after it, and tags every claim with how much we actually know: measured in a lab, reported by people who were there, or only rumoured.

Common reported dose
75–125 mg community tables, not advice; one pill now often holds 150–200 mg or more
Starts
30–60 min a slow start is a reason to wait, not to take more
Lasts
3–6 h a low mood can follow for ~3 days
Never with
MAOIs · ritonavir deaths have been reported

How to read this

What is known about MDMA comes in very different grades. A blood level measured in a Basel lab and a sentence about the music sounding better do not deserve the same font. Every claim carries two tags: how strong the evidence is, and whether it comes from people describing their own experience. Press a tile to switch that kind of claim off across the whole page.

Scroll is the nightThe clock maps your position onto one night out: the drive in, the rush about an hour after swallowing, the plateau in a hot room, the urge for another, sunrise, then the low days and the weeks it takes to feel like yourself again. The room behind the page lives through the same night.
The reservoirThe gauge at the edge is a metaphor. MDMA makes the brain release much of its stored serotonin at once; the stores are thought to refill in a day or two, the low mood can last several days, and tolerance takes weeks to fade. The gauge stands for all of that together, not for a measurement of anyone's brain.
A glance is enoughThe page starts with what a first-time reader needs. Look closer for detail, or show everything. Press UV and only what keeps people safe stays lit. Search (⌘K or /) always reaches all of it.
